For my second project, I want to display the water cycle in a more interesting way. Cedar Lee, an artist who paints on live edge wood slabs, portrays nature scenes with bright colors on organically-shaped canvases.

Lee’s work is an example of how commonly portrayed subjects, such as trees and landscapes, can be shown with new perspectives. In particular, Lee’s piece Hydrologic Cycle caught my eye because it shows waters’ connection to life and land in a completely different perspective because of the shape of the wood slab that was used. I also plan to depict water and would also like to integrate a more organically shaped canvas instead of a basic rectangle. Another aspect of Lee’s work that I enjoy is the over-exaggeration of details such as the intensity of the sun or the details in the grass. I think this helps show the settings in an informative but also whimsical manner. Because I want to portray information in a fun way, I will consider using this type of style in my pieces for my SI.
