  1. What is your intention for the piece? How does it fit in your SI?

I really like reading instruction manuals because they are structured and straight forward. Since my SI is about my draw towards organizational methods, like charts such as manuals, as a manifestation of my perfectionism, I wanted to kind of break the structure of typical printer manuals that I like. Drawing inspiration from the cover pages of printer manuals, I want to collage images of printers that I use daily in my life (at home and in the art room), as well as the ink level charts to recreate a cover page that is instead chaotic in manner. I want to do this by creating an amalgamation printer, with each part painted in a different manner. For the text, I am going to use scans of ink level charts---The reason I'm including these is because I only print ink level charts when the printer doesn't work. When I go to a manual, I try to fix the printer, but in this case the printer in the manual is broken and kind of monsterous.

My current ideas for painting each part of the printer are drip paint, half tones, clean lines (like printer manual style)

  2. One this blog I would like to see at least three images showing progress on you work which can be: research, technical practice or refining the piece. Explain what is happening in each image.

1st image: example of text/ink level printouts

    2nd image: my amalgamation printer

3rd image: example of painting each part of the picture with a different effect

  3. questions:

I want to do the halftones, paint, etc traditionally. Should I scan these images to create a digital collage after?

Is the intention clear---am I reaching with the meaning?

For 11, I want to do a piece on my avoidance towards art because of an attempt to make all my art "perfect" --- creating procrastination

Cool idea! I think making a digital collage would be a great idea. I don't think you are reaching with the intention just make sure it's evident that the printer is messed up and monsterous. I think it would be interesting to get creative with the colors.

I think I was really confused at first, but then you explained it to me and I loved your idea. I also really like your painting drip ideas. I hope you find that artist btw

For the halftone one, I think it would be a cool idea to do it digitally,. I think that digital/traditional collage aspect is always interesting

I think the intention makes sense. To me it feels like an amalgamation of all the ways printers can piss you off, when you want them to be nice and organized. (Idk if that makes sense)

For any of your SI's I am still pro you doing some kind of Ikea manual

I really like your idea for a collage and the printer manuals. I think something that might be cool is if you have a paper coming out of the machine or maybe an inside look into the printer to show how a paper gets printed on. You can do half the paper wit the manual stuff then cut it off like ink cutting off.

For your next piece I think it would be cool to see a sort of manual of your idea process about tackling an action and how it slowly dwindles into not doing the action at all.

I really like the idea of an amalgation printer and combinging different art styles into a collage. I'm curious about the background, I think you could write instructions like how they write them on printer instruction manuals.

1) The digital collage would be helpful for progress photos, so I'd say yes do it.

2) Not really if I had to be honest. I think you should more closely model the instruction manual with the steps they provide. Except each step would actually be a ridiculous piece of advice relating to the theme since the printer doesn't actually work.

3)For 11, you could reference the procrastination cycle you illustrated in your other piece.
