SI 5 progress

• What idea is guiding this work?

  As a cheese lover, my favorite cheese is gouda. For my SI of charts, I wanted to show the process of cheese making through making gouda. However, unlike my other projects, I wanted to make my project less literal and put a fun spin on it. For this project, in the Formula Cheese racing league, gouda wheels are used for the tires of the racing cars. Through my comic, the Formula Cheese fans will get a glimpse into how the tires (wheels of gouda) are made. This way, I am still explaining the process of gouda making, but in a more fun, storytelling manner. My main motive behind wanting to take this route is because I wanted to show a progression of time, rather than a still moment like in my other pieces. With a comic book, I can achieve this and show how cheese, specifically gouda, making occurs over many months and even years.

  I will be focusing on composition in this piece by making comic book panels. I aim to have around 10 pages.

• How are you practicing, experimenting or revising aspects of this work? (you can pick one)

  Originally, I wanted to do a flip book for this project but ran into issues of not being able to submit a video to the AP test. I researched alternatives, which included storyboarding or making a piece similar to my previous ones, but I decided to create a comic book. I decided to make a comic because I have not made a comic in the past; I believe it is a fun challenge.

• How can your choices of materials or processes relate to your idea?

  I plan to use digital to create my comic book. I want the crisp, clean lines that are associated with comic books so I will be using digital to create the line art. However, I also want a handmade feel to my piece, so I might use markers to color in the line art. If not, I will use digital halftones to mimic real comics.
